The
Amazon basin,the largest and densest tropical forest in the
World covers 7 million square kilometers(2.5 million square
miles),an area as large as the United States (except for Canada/Alaska)
or twice the size of Germany.There are several rivers that flow
down the Andes to make up the Amazon,the longest river in the
world.Producing at least 15% of world`s oxigen,with more than
2500 species of fish,1780 birds species and more than 500 species
of plants,the Amazon basin is undoubtedly one of the"megadiverse"
areas and this represents a tremendous responsibility.
Tree
are the main areas developed for ecotourism.Iquitos,Puerto Maldonado
and Manu Park.

Located north-east of the country,Iquitos is
the gateway for all programs developed around the Amazon River and its tributaries
as well as cruises down the Amazon to Leticia and Tabatinga. |

40km (25miles) down river from Iquitos on the Amazon River,the Inn is the nawest
and most modern of the lodges owned and operated by Explorama.Individual palm-thatched
cottages,each with a private porch overlook the main Amazon River.All twin-bedded
screened units have lights,fan and ensuite bathroom.Garden walkays ,lead from
each cottage to the bar, the Hammock house,the patio and the dinning room.Guided
tours allow you to adventure on treks through primary rainforest reserves,hike
to the historic Napo River and boat trips to neighboring villages and Lake Victoria

deep in primary rainforest and offers two-day or longer axcursions.Kerosene torches
and lamps illuminete palm- thatched houses containing 10-17 private sleeping rooms.Covered
connecting walkways lead to the bar,the dining room,the sun porch .Showers and
toilet facilities adjoin each house.A variety of treks are offered,including the
Seven Bridges Trail. |

the Sucusari nature reserve,the Camp allows you to enjoy a privately owned plant
and animal reservation,as well as visiting the adjoining Amazon Canopy walkway,the

live in an authentic Amazon river style with palm -thatched houses,kerosene lighting,

all on "ground floor"two swimming pool,internet,international phone,and
24 hours restaurant and bar service.All units are fully air conditioned with hot
water and showers.Program to the primary rainforest,Napo River, sugar cane rum
factory,Yagua native Americans,piranha fishing and village visits are included
as well as transfer to/from Iquitos by bus or by air conditioned river launch
down the Amazon River 40 km (25 miles) from Iquitos. |
| The Amazon Sinchicuy is a rustic and comfortable lodge ,located
on the shores of the Sinchicuy river 30 km (20 miles) down the Amazon river.Built
on high ground in a tropical garden area with flowering trees and plants which
attrac birds and butterfies such as the irridescent Blue Morpho.Within this area
there is a place where a variety of orchids are cultivated and primates,parrots
and toucans live freely.The lodge has 32 rooms with private facilities connected
to the main dining room by palm-thatched walkways.All lighting is provided by
kerosene lamps.Activities include nature hikes through the rainforest,cultural
excursions to visit a native Yahua community,canoe excursions,sunrise scouting
for pink dolphins and observing exotic water plants such as the giant Victoria
Regia lily pads. |
| The ship was built in the late 1800`S and was rebuilt in
1981 to enable the international traveler to experience the Amazon in basic comfort.It
was again refurbished in 1994.It carries 44 passangers in 21 air conditioned cabins
on an itinerary which explores life on the Amazon river and its people.the
ship has been designed as an informal cruise ship.The major public rooms on the
M/V Rio Amazonas- the dining room and library- are air conditioned.There is ample
deck area both covered and uncovered with comfortable deck chairs and hammocks
for a leisurely look at life on the river.Down river cruises operate from Iquitos
to the twin cities of Tabatinga(Brasil) and Lrticia (Colombia)departing sundays
and arriving wednesdays.Up river cruises reverse the pattern Leticia /Tabatinga
on wednesday and arriving Iquitos on sunday.Passengers can combine cruises in
both directions for an in-depth seven day/six night round trip cruise. |
